2021 International Symposium on Food Safety and Health Held in Wuhan

At this autumn season of sweet scented osmanthus,many extraordinary things have happened in the past seventy years.From September 24th to 25th, the 2021 Wuhan Forum for World-renowned Scientists to Give Lectures in Hubei and the International Symposium on Food Safety and Healthwereheld in Wuhan. More than 350 well-known experts and scholars,representatives of entrepreneurs, and representatives of university teachers and students from China, the United States, Sweden, Singapore and other countries participated in the grand meeting, and conducted seminars and exchanges on the theme of“food safety, food nutrition and human health”.

Deng Zixin, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and professor of Shanghai Jiaotong University, Li Peiwu, academician of the Chinese Academy of engineering and researcher of the Oil Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Zhao zegang, grade II inspector of Hubei Provincial Department of Education, Li Shuo, Deputy Director of Hubei Provincial Grain Bureau, Professor Dong Shijie, President of Wuhan Polytechnic University, and Professor Bian Ke, former president of Henan University of Technology, attended the meeting. Professor Cheng Shuiyuan, chairman of the conference and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Wuhan Polytechnic University presided over the opening ceremony.

Zhao Zegang pointed out that in the face of major changes in the world unseen in a century and new conditions and challenges brought about by the epidemic, Hubei Province has always insisted on opening up to the outside world and unshakable exchanges. As a key talent introduction project created by the provincial government, Wuhan Forum for World-renowned Scientists to Give Lectures in Hubei has played an active role in promoting exchanges and cooperation between universities in our province and world-renowned scientists, and promoting the development of disciplines and majors and the construction of double first-class. He hopes that Wuhan Polytechnic University will take advantage of this seminar to give full play to its academic characteristics and talent advantages, and focus on the theme of food safety, food nutrition and human health, and continuously strengthen its cooperation in teaching and research with world-class universities, and make new contributions to the in-depth implementation of the Rural Revitalization strategy, accelerating the construction of a modern agricultural development system and promoting the high-quality economic development of our province.

Li Shuo said in his speech that as the first batch of key supporting provinces for the “Quality Grain Project” in our country, our province has always adhered to the implementation of the “Quality Grain Project” as a starting point, and vigorously promoted the high-quality development of the grain industry around the “Five-Excellence Interaction” and “Three-Chain Coordination”. This year is the first year of the “14th Five-Year Plan”. The provincial party committee and the provincial government attach great importance to agricultural modernization and industrialization, and put forward higher requirements for the safety and health of grain, oil and food. He hopes that the experts and scholars attending the seminar can take the opportunity of this seminar to communicate, exchange, and cooperate more, selflessly to share their views on promoting the high-quality development of the food and grain industry, and fully display the latest achievements of industry research and contribute wisdom and strength to ensuring food safety and enabling healthy China. He also congratulated Wuhan Polytechnic University on its upcoming 70th birthday.

Dong Shijie expressed his gratitude to all the guests who participated in and supported this event. He pointed out that with the accelerated evolution of a new round of technological revolution and industrial transformation, the Healthy China 2030 strategy has demonstrated unprecedented and significant practical significance. As the main front of talent training, universities shoulder the unshirkable responsibility in the development of the health industry and the construction of a healthy China. Dong Shijie stated that this international seminar has established a platform to discuss the cross-integrated development of industries under the concept of “big food, big nutrition and big health”, and to exchange experience and seek common development for important strategic needs and major engineering issues in the field of food nutrition and human health, which will further promote the integration of the food nutrition and health industry with the cutting-edge technology, the gathering of characteristic resources, the construction of an integrated platform, and the realization of multi-channel, multi-level, multi-angle and all-round development. Dong Shijie hopes that all experts and scholars will do their best to inspire each other, and contribute to the promotion of the deep integration of the upstream and downstream of the large food industry chain and the creation of a large health industry chain integrating R&D, production, life, and health care.

At the seminar, Academician Li Peiwu, Professor Douglas G. Hayes of the University of Tennessee, Academician Deng Zixin, and Professor Cheng Shuiyuan successively delivered the thematic reports on “Food Aflatoxin Detection and Early Warning Control”, “Progress in Biosurfactant Research”, “Synthesis of High-end Big Health Products”, “Biological Innovation and Creation” and “The National Selenium Center Selenium Action”.

Li Peiwu, academician of the Chinese Academy of engineering and researcher of the Oil Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences made a report.

Professor Douglas G. Hayes from the University of Tennessee made a report.

Deng Zixin, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and professor of 

Shanghai Jiaotong University made a report.

Professor Cheng Shuiyuan, chairman of the conference and Deputy Secretary of 

the Party Committee of Wuhan  Polytechnic University made a report.

It is reported that the forum lasted for one and a half days and set up six sub-venues, including the International Forum on Food Safety and Industrial Technology Innovation, the Seminar on Bulk Grain and Oil Deep Processing Technology, the International Forum on Selenium and Nutrition and Health, and the Seminar on Se-enriched Food Deep Processing Technology, the Forum on Nutrition, Health and Biotechnology, the Forum on health-wellness. It will focus on the industry development hotspots such as food safety and industrial technological innovation, selenium and nutrition and health, biotechnology and the health-wellness industry for in-depth discussions and exchanges.

The Forum was guided by the Department of Safe Storage and Science and Technology of the National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration, National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment, Chinese Cereals and Oils Association, Hubei Provincial Department of education and Hubei Provincial Grain Bureau. Wuhan Polytechnic University, Key Laboratory of bulk grain and oil intensive processing of Ministry of Education, National R&D Center for Se-Rich Agricultural Products Processing, National Grain Technology Transfer Center, and Hubei Key Laboratory for Processing and Transformation of Agricultural Products hosted the forum, which was undertaken by Yantai Foodmate Information Technology Co., Ltd.
